I got off the couch and started walking to lose weight. When I started I could barely make it around the block. I plateaued at 4.5 miles in an hour, could not lose anymore weight, so I started alternating between running and walking to break through my plateau. Before I knew it I could was up to running a 1/2 mile before having to stop and walk, then came a mile next a mile and a half.
My cheerleader challenged me to run the Koman 5k in Evansville, Indiana, she even went as far as to tell me that if I could not run the whole thing that I could stop and walk part of it, that would be OK. That is how it all started, needless to say I ran the Koman without having to stop and walk. After I ran the 5k a friend of mine challenged me to train and do a full-marathon, the Cincinnati Flying Pig. The plan became to run a 10K in Cincinnati on Thanksgiving, then a 1/2 marathon in February and then the Flying Pig in May. My running addiction is still going strong, today is a day off from training, you have to take a break every now and then to let the old muscles rest.
