“I am, and always will be, a blues guitarist.” - Eric Clapton
Eric Clapton played lead guitar on “My Guitar Gently Weeps”, making it the only Beatles song in which a member of the Beatles did not play lead guitar. Following is a video that I found on YouTube from 1987, featuring George Harrison as lead on vocals, Ringo Starr and Phil Collins on the drums, Elton John on the piano and lead guitar is Eric Clapton.
As compensation for Eric Clapton playing lead guitar on “My Guitar Gently Weeps”, George Harrison wrote “Badge” for Clapton’s band Cream. From their 2005 reunion here is Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton performing “Badge”.
The most famous part of the relationship between George Harrison and Eric Clapton is they were both married to the same woman, Patti Boyd. Clapton fell in love with Boyd while she was still married to Harrison and she was the inspiration for the song “Layla”. It is also believed that she was the inspiration for the songs “Bell Bottom Blues” and “Wonderful Tonight”. Here is a video of Clapton performing “Layla” in 1999.
