Health Writer's Club: Training Summary For The Week

"I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life a champion.'"   Muhammad Ali

It takes 16 or 17 weeks to train for a marathon and pushing your body to its very limits hurts. At the peak of training you will be running approximately 40 miles a week and eating like a horse. But there is not a better feeling in the world when you cross that finish line knowing you have just accomplished something that less than 1% of the people in the world can say they have done.

This past week was a good week of training for me. I ran a total of 25 miles, and did one hour of cross training at the Y with my personal trainer Eric.

  1. Whew! I'm so impressed! I'm trying to train for a half-marathon right now (hard when temps are below freezing!), and one day hope to attempt a full! Good luck to you!

  4. When I started running in 2007, I could only run for short distances and then would have to walk. I just kept working my way up over the years. During the Chicago Marathon I made it 20 miles before I had to stop and walk.
