Run a 5K

My first race was the 2007 Komen 5K in Evansville, Indiana. 5K's are by far the most popular races, they are a great first race or warm-up for a longer race. Active.com has six reasons to run a 5K:
  1. Ease: Most of us are busy and training time is precious. Training for a full marathon is like taking on a 2nd job. You can easily work up to a 5K, from the couch, and train for it adequately on just three days a week.
  2. Convenience: With a 5K you arrive at the race, warm up 10 - 20 minutes, race for 40 minutes at the most, cool down replenish with food and drink and head home in your new T-shirt.
  3. Exhilaration: You really feel like you are racing. Even after running 1/2 marathons and full marathons, I still get the runner's high doing a 5K.
  4. Improvement: It is an excellent fitness booster. When I am training for a longer race, 5K's are a great way to gauge my progress.
  5. Change: The short and sweet 5K is a great way to mix things up.
  6. Motivation: Signing up for a 5K gives you a reason to get up off the couch and run.
Let me know what races have signed up for this year.

  1. I'm going to run the 100% Irish for a Day 5k for my first 5k ever. I've been training for about a month on the treadmill and indoor track, am down about 15 lbs and just did 3.08 miles on the indoor track the other day @ 30mins with about .15 miles of walking so I know I can finish. I just really hope in this next month I'll be able to get my time down to easily be able to beat 30mins on race day.
